The Mortgage Lifter, also known as the Aztec or Pueblo Bean, is an extremely large, white bean that tastes similar to the butter bean. These beans have a rich, creamy consistency that works well in soups and casseroles.
The name came as a result of a farmer who was about to lose his land to the bank, but instead, had a good crop of these beans, which lifted his mortgage.
