Yet, very little is known about this mysterious entity. Kokopelli is most typically viewed as a fertility deity, and is still worshipped by many Native American tribes in the Southwest. He is also thought to be a trickster, traveling salesman, insect, musician, rain priest, warrior and hunting magician. Kokopelli folklore demonstrates that he is a character embraced by a wide range of tribal peoples. Today he is commonly referred to as the humpbacked flute player.
