Berries and Cream

1-1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
1-1/2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
1-1/2 cups fresh or frozen raspberries
3/4 cup sugar
4 Tbsp. rum or 1 tsp. rum extract
1/2 pint whipping cream

Rinse fresh berries in cold, running water in a strainer and drain. If using frozen berries, keep frozen until ready to use. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine sugar and rum, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Cool for 10 minutes. Pour over berries. Refrigerate until ready to use. Spoon berries into individual serving bowls. Top with cream, whipped or plain. Serves 4 to 6.
