Mimbres Linen Set: TURTLE

Product Description

These beautiful graphic designs were painted on the insides of ceramic bowls that were created by the potters of the Mimbres culture nearly 1000 years ago. These prehistoric peoples lived between 1000 AD and 1280 AD in the Mimbres River Valley of southwestern New Mexico.
The towel & potholder are tied together with colorful raffia & decorated with a chile pepper. Hang tags explain the symbolism of the design.
Turtles symbolize ancestors & longevity. The Zuni Indians perform a pilgrimage once a year walking from their northwestern New Mexico pueblo, over 60 miles south, to collect turtles. These they worship as their ancestors. The checkerboard pattern represents the Milky Way, a pathway for the Warrior Twins.
